2016 MLS SuperDraft - Final Results

Here's your 2016 MLS SuperDraftees that we'll be following throughout the 2016 season. Some more notes:

*Three sets of college teammates were drafted to the same MLS team: Cincinnati's Emmanuel Appiah and John Manga (Colorado), Georgetown's Joshua Yaro and Keegan Rosenberry (Philadelphia), and Washington's James Moberg and Josh Heard (Vancouver).
*The LA Galaxy were the only team to pass on a pick in the third round. The Galaxy made just one pick in the draft when they took Josh Turnley at #41 from Georgetown.
*Clemson, North Carolina, Georgetown and Creighton led all schools by each having four players selected in the draft.
*Overall, six of the 81 picks went unused.
*The Colorado Rapids, Vancouver Whitecaps, and Philadelphia Union led all clubs by selecting six players in the draft.
*Keegan Rosenberry was the top American player selected in the draft at #3, one pick ahead of Brandon Vincent who is currently in camp with the USMNT.

2016 MLS SuperDraft Results by Team - Rounds 1 and 2

For the purpose of this blog, we're not going to focus on who drafted who, but rather who ended up with who. Here's a quick look at the day's highlights with rounds 3 and 4 scheduled to take place on Tuesday:

*Philadelphia Union walk away with 3 picks in the top 6 grabbing Georgetown teammates Joshua Yaro and Keegan Rosenberry and Creighton midfielder Fabian Herbers.
*Chicago trades the number 1 pick in the draft to New York City FC, but walks away with USMNT hopeful Brandon Vincent at number 4.
*New York City FC ends up with number one overall pick, Jack Harrison.
*The LA Galaxy and Sporting Kansas City made no picks in the first two rounds. Columbus, Montreal and Philadelphia led all clubs with four picks today.
*Both New York clubs have made all of their picks.

Looking Back at #1 Draft Picks

No doubt that Orlando City has few regrets about taking Canadian phenom Cyle Larin with the top pick in the 2015 SuperDraft, but let's look back at how other strikers drafted number one have fared in their MLS careers:

MLS SuperDraft Rookie Watch, Week 24

Sporting Kansas City continues to lean heavily on its rookie class as Amadou Dia, Saad Abdul-Salaam and Connor Hallisey all made starts this week as Sporting advanced to the U.S. Open Cup finals and rallied for a big regular season win over the Vancouver Whitecaps. MLS SuperDraft Rookie Watch - Week 11

Cyle Larin showed more of why he was the first overall pick in this year's SuperDraft scoring in both of Orlando's matches this week.
