What seemed like a very winnable Champions League Final just got a lot harder. Despite trailing 3-0 heading into their second leg against Costa Rica's Herediano, Club América erased their deficit in less than 20 minutes and took the lead for good in 25. When the dust finally settled, the Mexican powerhouse walked away with a 6-0 victory behind four goals from Dario Benedetto. Club América has scored a tournament-high 30 goals in eight Champions League matches including six or more three times. Including Benedetto, five different América players (Benedetto, Oribe Peralta, Martín Zúñiga, Luis Gabriel Rey, Emilio Sánchez) have scored twice in the same game during the tournament. They've also only been scored on six times in the eight games, and three of those came in the first leg against Herediano. So while they're beatable, this is going to be a tremendous challenge for the Impact who, despite showing their mettle against Pachuca in the quarterfinals, will face a huge uphill battle. The first leg will be April 22nd in Mexico with the second leg scheduled for April 29th in Montreal. No MLS club has ever won the CONCACAF Champions League in its current format.
