CONCACAF Champions League Match Day 1 Results

Group play of the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League is officially underway with the first 8 matches in the books. Here's a look at this week's results highlighted by Montreal's 1-0 win over C.D. FAS of El Salvador. All four U.S. MLS teams were off this week.

TUESDAY

Montreal 1 FAS 0

The 2014 MLS Regular Season has been a frustrating one for the Impact as they've found themselves winners in just 3 of 21 matches. Their Champions League opener was a different story though as Marco Di Vaio, who scored 20 goals for the Impact a year ago, found the back of the net in the first half and Montreal defeated El Salvador's C.D. FAS by a score of 1-0. The game was not without drama though as Montreal saw defender Hassoun Camara ejected midway through the second half, and then proceeded to watch their head coach Frank Klopas ejected just ten minutes later. Evan Bush, who had started just 3 regular season games this year - all of them Impact losses - made a pair of saves to preserve the win. Montreal's leading scorer, Jack McInerney did not appear for the Impact.

Cruz Azul 1 Alajuelense 1

Cruz Azul's vice-captain Christian Gimenez gave his club an early 1-0 lead on the strength of a penalty kick goal, but Costa Rica's Alajuelense battled back and forced a draw with the Defending Champions thanks to an effort by striker Armando Alonso. Patrick Pemberton made 5 saves for Alajuelense.

Olimpia 1 Alpha United 0

Defender Alberth Elis scored the only goal of the match as Olimpia defeated hosts Alpha United in Guyana, 1-0.

Leon 4 Metapan 2

Leon got a pair of second half goals from substitute José Maria Cárdenas, on loan from Club America, and first half goals from Luis Zamora and Derley in a 4-2 win over El Salvador's Isidro Metapan. Martin Bravo added a pair of assists for the victors while the losers got a pair of goals from Puerto Rican international Hector Ramos. Ramos was the second leading scorer during 2012 Caribbean Cup Qualifying with 7 goals in 6 matches including 4 against Sint Maarten. He also had pair of 2-goal matches against Saint Lucia during 2014 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying.

WEDNESDAY

Pachuca 4 Real Espana 1

Erick Gutierrez scored on both sides of the intermission as Pachuca scored the first four goals of their match against Honduran side Real Espana. Hirving Lozano and Ariel Nahuelpan each added goals of their own. Oscar Perez made 5 saves for the victors, and only allowed an own goal in what was a convincing win.

Saprissa 1 Real Esteli 1

The Nicaraguans salvaged a point at home as Real Esteli held on for a 1-1 draw against Costa Rican powerhouse Saprissa. Uruguayan Rodrigo Valiente got the hosts on the board first with a goal in the 10th minute, but Saprissa eventually equalized behind a goal from Ariel Rodriguez, a member of Costa Rica's 2014 Preliminary World Cup roster.

THURSDAY

Comunicaciones 5 Bayamon FC 0

Rolando Blackburn found the back of the net 3 times as Guatemala's Comunicaciones cruised to a 5-0 win over Puerto Rico's Bayamon FC. Agustin Enrique Herrera and Nelson Miranda each added goals as Comunicaciones took an early lead in Group 8.

Waterhouse 2 Tauro 1

Romario Campbell and Vincent Earle each scored in the opening 20 minutes and Jamaican side Waterhouse FC hung on for a 2-1 win over Panama's Tauro FC. Jair Renteria scored late in the match for Tauro, but the Panamanian club couldn't find an equalizer and fell at home.
