U.S. Wins 10th Algarve Cup
The U.S. turned in yet another solid performance and rode goals by Julie Johnston and Christen Press to a 2-0 win over France clinching them their 10th Algarve Cup trophy and first since 2013. Johnston headed home a free kick by Lauren Holiday for her first international goal just seven minutes into the match, and then Press turned in a sensational individual effort just before halftime to essentially put the game out of reach. Hope Solo turned in another dominating performance in net with 7 saves including denying Amadine Henry on a penalty shot. The shutout was the 81st of Solo's career. Germany defeated Sweden 2-1 to win the 3rd place match.
