Weekly Top Tens & Power Rankings - 6/23/15

THE SOCCERSMITH'S MLS POWER RANKINGS

- Portland Timbers (7-5-4) - I don't know if they're the best team in the league right now, but they knocked the Sounders out of the Open Cup and they're in the midst of the longest winning streak in the history of their franchise. W 3-1 USOC, W 2-0 vs HOU Last Week: 5
- Sporting Kansas City (6-3-6) - Gave up a late goal in a loss to RSL and barely won their Open Cup match, but they still have the fewest losses in the league. Last Week: 1a
- Seattle Sounders (9-5-2) - Not a good week for the Sounders as they were knocked out of the tournament they almost always win, lost Obafemi Martins to injury, lost Clint Dempsey to a suspension, and then lost to the Quakes... AGAIN. Last Week: 1
- DC United (9-5-4) - United rallied for a big win against the Revs on the heels of advancing to the 5th Round of the Open Cup with an extra time win. With nine wins they're seven points clear in the East and currently sit atop the Supporters Shield Standings. Last Week: 6
- Toronto FC (6-6-1) - Disappointing showing against City for the Reds. With Jozy and Bradley headed to the Gold Cup, Sebastian Giovinco is going to have to step up his game even more. Last Week: 3
- Vancouver Whitecaps (9-6-2) - The Caps don't win pretty, but with nine wins they only trail the Sounders at the top of the West. David Ousted's two penalty kick saves were easily the biggest of the week. Last Week: 7
- LA Galaxy (6-5-7) - Robbie Keane is back in the mix and it's no coincidence that they scored 11 goals in two games this week. Yeah, the opponents weren't the most impressive, but goals are goals, and the Galaxy are only going to get better. Last Week: 12
- New England Revolution (6-5-6) - Disappointing week for one of the East's elite as they lost to their chief Eastern Conference competition AND became the first MLS club to get eliminated from the US Open Cup. Last Week: 4
- San Jose Earthquakes (6-5-4) - Wondo saved them in the Open Cup, but it was their another DP, Matías Pérez García who led the way in their win over Seattle. The Quakes have scored five goals in two wins over the Sounders this season. Last Week: 13
- Montreal Impact (5-5-2) - The Impact showed up again last week which means they'll probably lose badly this week. Last Week: 15
- New York Red Bulls (4-5-5) - Cruised to a comfortable win in the US Open Cup, but had a disaster of a game against Vancouver with a red card and two missed penalties by BWP. Changes are coming in New York. Last Week: 8
- Orlando City SC (5-6-5) - Blew a two goal lead in extra time before eking out a shootout win and then got dumped by the Impact. On the bright side, Brek Shea won't be leaving for the Gold Cup as he didn't make Klinsmann's 23-man roster. Last Week: 9
- Houston Dynamo (5-6-5) - No Giles Barnes and no Brad Davis equals no offense. Will Bruin's been big this year, but can't do it alone. Last Week: 10
- FC Dallas (6-5-5) - Can't buy a win in MLS lately. Remember when these guys were undefeated early in the year? Last Week: 11
- Columbus Crew (4-6-5) - Adam Bedell is a beast. Too bad he's behind Kei Kamara. Last Week: 14
- New York City SC (4-7-5) - Devastating loss in the Cup after blowing a 2-0 lead, but bounced back nicely behind two goals from David Villa to beat Toronto. City has quietly won 3 in a row. Last Week: 16
- Real Salt Lake (5-5-6) - Stole three points from Sporting with a stoppage time winner AND had some of their reserves lead them to a win in the Open Cup. Not a bad week for a team that hasn't been playing all that well. Last Week: 17
- Colorado Rapids (2-4-9) - Welcome to the big show Ensign Greenspan. I know I'll be rooting for you. Last Week: 20
- Chicago Fire (4-8-2) - Bailed out by Quincy Amarikwa's extra time goal to advance in the US Open Cup. Hopefully they benefit from having the weekend off. Last Week: 19
- Philadelphia Union (4-10-3) - Held scoreless in their US Open Cup matchup and then got blasted by the Galaxy. Still struggling on both sides of the ball. Last Week: 18
