MLS Weekly Recap, Week 31

Week 31:

Sporting Kansas City rallied from a goal down to force extra time against the Philadelphia Union and then outlasted their Eastern Conference opponents in a wild 7-6 shootout to win their third U.S. Open Cup title and deal the Union back-to-back losses the tournament finals. 21 year-old Jordi Quintillà delivered the winning kick... Frank Lampard scored for the third time in four matches, but DC United rallied for two goals after Lampard was substituted off in the 72nd minute and clinched a playoff berth. The loss snapped City's 3-game winning streak... Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore both scored goals as Toronto upended the Union 3-1 on Saturday. Toronto FC has now won three in a row, scoring three goals in each match... The New York Red Bulls became the first Eastern Conference team to hit 15 wins and eclipsed 50 points as they rallied from an early deficit to knock off the Columbus Crew, 2-1. The Crew, stuck on 47 points, missed an opportunity to become the third Eastern Conference team to clinch a playoff berth... Cyle Larin extended his rookie record with his 15th goal of the season and Seb Hines made his first MLS goal a game winner as Orlando City won their fourth straight since the return of Brek Shea defeating the Impact 2-1... Chicago overcame an early 1-0 deficit against New England rallying for three second half goals in a 3-1 win. Harry Shipp led the comeback with an assist on the equalizer to go along with the game winning goal... Sporting Kansas City started three rookies and knocked off the Portland Timbers 1-0 thanks to a late goal from second half substitute Krisztián Németh. The goal, Németh's 10th of the season, was assisted by another second half substitute, Graham Zusi... Chris Wondolowski scored his 16th goal of the season and helped keep San Jose's slim playoff hopes alive in a 1-1 draw with Vancouver. San Jose was forced to play the match without Fatai Alashe and Marc Pelosi, as both are away with the U.S. U-23s for Olympic Qualifying... FC Dallas clinched a playoff spot with a 4-1 rout over Houston on Sunday. David Texeira led the offense with a pair of goals as Dallas sits just a point behind LA with two games in hand... Real Salt Lake kept their postseason hopes alive with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids. Luke Mulholland netted the game winner late in the first half... Chad Barrett's stoppage time equalizer capped off another memorable match between the Sounders and Galaxy.
