MLS Weekly Recap - Weeks 29 & 30

Here's Week 29s recap:

Conor Doyle scored in the opening minute  and DC United cruised to a 2-0 CCL win over Árabe Unido to clinch first place in Group H and earn a spot in the quarterfinals... Real Salt Lake overcame 5 yellow cards (one of them a double) and salvaged a 0-0 draw against Santa Tecla in El Salvador. Midfielder John Stertzer was sent off in the 79th minute, but Jeff Attinella made 5 saves to preserve the shutout... Frank Lampard finally scored his first goal for New York City FC and Andrea Pirlo added a pair of assists as New York City shut out Toronto FC 2-0. City also welcomed back rookie Khiry Shelton who appeared in his first match since late May... Kelyn Rowe broke a 1-1 tie in the second half as the Revs won their sixth in a row and improved to 7-0-1 in their last eight matches... Kianz Froese scored the only goal in Vancouver's 1-0 Champions League win over Olimpia. Paolo Tornaghi made three saves to earn the shutout... Montreal overcame a red card to Ambroise Oyongo and rallied for a draw with San Jose as the Quakes blew a 1-0 lead for the second straight match... Benny Feilhaber scored a pair of goals as Sporting snapped a 5 game winless streak with a 3-1 win over FC Dallas who had their three game winning streak snapped... Sebastian Giovinco scored two more goals as Toronto scored 3 times in the first-half and cruised to a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids... Ned Grabavoy tallied 2 goals and an assist propelling City to a 3-2 win over the Quakes. City led the match 3-0 before San Jose mounted a failed comeback. The win capped a six point week for City... Kei Kamara notched his 21st goal of the season and added an assist as the Columbus Crew knocked off DC United 2-1 to take over first place in the Eastern Conference... Andreas Ivanschitz scored his first MLS goal and Stefan Frei made eight saves as Seattle defeated Vancouver 3-0 and clinched the 2015 Cascadia Cup... The Impact snapped New England's winning streak with a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Didier Drogba and Johan Venegas... For the second game in a row, Brek Shea and Bryan Róchez provided a spark off the bench and propelled Orlando City SC to victory as they knocked off the Fire, 1-0... The Galaxy were shut out for the third straight match falling to Real Salt Lake 3-0. Devon Sandoval scored twice for Real Salt Lake... The Red Bulls didn't let the Crew sit atop the East for long becoming the first MLS club to clinch a playoff berth this season with a 2-0 win over the Portland Timbers... Swiss international Tranquillo Barnetta opened his MLS account as the Philadelphia Union defeated the Dynamo 2-0...

And Week 30s:

DC United rallied from three goals down in the second half to salvage a draw with Jamaica's Montego Bay FC in United's final group play tune-up. United finishes with a record of 3-0-1 and advances to the quarterfinals... Didier Drogba scored again and the Impact sent the Fire to a league-worst 17th loss with a 2-1 win... Will Bruin scored the only goal of the match as the Dynamo held off Benny Feilhaber and the Sporting Kansas City attack 1-0. DaMarcus Beasley returned to the Dynamo lineup after missing their two previous games with an injury... Alan Gordon scored a late equalizer as the Galaxy rallied from a 1-0 deficit to draw with Central FC (Trinidad and Tobago) and clinch Group D of the Champions League... Lamar Neagle scored two goals, and Nelson Valdez added a goal and two assists as the Sounders clinched Group F of the Champions League with another 3-0 win over Vancouver. Chad Barrett also added a pair of assists... Real Salt Lake brought its big guns in during the second half of its Champions League showdown with Santa Tecla and the trio of Kyle Beckerman, Juan Manuel Martínez and Javier Morales contributed a goal and a pair of assists and put RSL in the driver's seat of Group G... Cyle Larin shattered the rookie scoring record with a hat trick against the New York Red Bulls as Orlando City defeated New York by a score of 5-2. Kaká added three assists in the rout and Bryan Róchez scored as a substitute for the third consecutive match. Orlando has won three straight since the return of Brek Shea... Sebastian Giovinco became the second player to reach 20 goals this season and also added an assist as Toronto knocked off Chicago 3-2. Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley also added goals for Toronto while Chicago's Gilberto scored twice in his first match against his former club. The Fire lead MLS with 18 losses... Didier Drogba scored two more goals giving him seven in his first six MLS matches and the Impact won a third straight, 2-0 over DC United. Montreal is now unbeaten in their last six matches... Andre Blake made 10 saves to preserve a 1-1 draw for the Union against the New England Revolution. Fernando Aristeguieta netted the equalizer for Philadelphia... Kei Kamara scored his 22nd goal of the season, but was outdone by Portland's Fanendo Adi who netted his fourth brace of the season in the Timbers' 2-1 win over Columbus... Giles Barnes scored for the first time in over 4 months as Houston capped a six-point week with a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rapids... David Villa knocked in a stoppage time penalty kick to send New York City FC to a third consecutive win. Frank Lampard added his second MLS goal... Obafemi Martins and Dom Dwyer traded goals as a predominantly reserve side from Sporting KC drew with the Sounders 1-1... Matías Pérez García scored just his second goal of the season propelling the San Jose Earthquakes to a critical 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake. He was then sent off less than a minute after scoring the game winner... Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane, and Gio dos Santos all scored goals for the Galaxy as they snapped out of their scoring funk with a 3-2 win over FC Dallas.
