Weekly MLS Power Rankings, Week 31

THE SOCCERSMITH'S MLS POWER RANKINGS

- LA Galaxy (14-9-9) - A late defensive lapse cost them a win against Seattle, but they clinched a playoff berth and they're not on anyone's list of teams you want to meet in the postseason. Last Week: 1
 - New York Red Bulls (15-9-6) - Big win against the Crew, especially after falling behind early. First team in the East to 15 wins and still in the hunt for the Supporter's Shield. Last Week: 3
 - FC Dallas (15-10-5) - Thrashed the Dynamo 4-1 and quietly are in great position to actually win the West as they trail LA by just one point with two games in hand. Last Week: 5
- Sporting Kansas City (13-9-9) - Sporting will be Champions League bound once again after a shootout win in the U.S. Open Cup. They also showed off their depth knocking off another playoff hopeful, the Timbers, despite starting three rookies. Last Week: 7
 - New England Revolution (13-11-8) - Not a great showing against the Fire and missed a chance to clinch a playoff berth as a result. Last Week: 2
 - Toronto FC (14-13-4) - Three straight wins with three goals in each. Don't sleep on Toronto! Last Week: 10
 - Seattle Sounders (14-13-5) - Chad Barrett scored a huge goal late against the Galaxy to salvage a draw in front of the home crowd. Seattle appears to have recovered from their midseason funk. Last Week: 8
 - Montreal Impact (12-12-6) - Tough loss again Orlando City, but the Impact are still in great position to make the postseason. Last Week: 4
 - Columbus Crew (13-11-8) - Missed a chance to clinch a playoff berth when they blew a lead against the Red Bulls, but are still in pretty good shape. Last Week: 6
- DC United (14-12-6) - Álvaro Saborío proved the trade for him was worthwhile as his stoppage time winner against New York City FC has United headed to the playoffs. Last Week: 11
- Vancouver Whitecaps (15-12-4) - Couldn't hold off the Quakes, but are in good position to get one of the remaining Western Conference playoff berths. Last Week: 12
- Orlando City SC (11-13-8) - Four straight wins since the return of Brek Shea. Too bad he missed the entire middle of the season. Last Week: 16
 - Portland Timbers (12-11-8) - Couldn't solve Sporting Kansas City as the Timbers missed a big chance to make up ground in the West. Last Week: 9
- San Jose Earthquakes (12-12-8) - Wondo grabbed another goal to salvage a draw against Vancouver, but the Quakes miss Fatai Alashe and Marc Pelosi, both of whom are with the U.S. U-23s for Olympic Qualifying. Last Week: 13
- Real Salt Lake (11-12-8) - Here comes RSL. Too little too late? I don't know, but do YOU want to bet against Nick Rimando? Last Week: 14
- New York City SC (10-15-7) - Subbed off Frank Lampard with a 1-0 lead against DC and gave up two goals in a game they really had to have. But on the bright side, Andrea Pirlo is in the running for the FIFA Ballon d'Or. Last Week: 15
- Philadelphia Union (9-16-7) - Tough week as they lost a heartbreaker in the U.S. Open Cup Final and then ran into the buzzsaw that is the Toronto offense. Last Week: 18
- Houston Dynamo (11-13-8) - Took steps forward last week with a pair of wins, and now go backwards after getting throttled by in-state rivals, FC Dallas 4-1. Last Week: 17
 - Chicago Fire (8-18-6) - Big win against New England helped showcase the brilliance of Harry Shipp. Gilberto's looking like a great addition as well. Last Week: 20
 - Colorado Rapids (8-13-10) - Tough loss against Real Salt Lake, and unlike fellow bottom dwellers Chicago, the Rapids future doesn't appear to be as bright. Last Week: 19
